This Pickering emulsion face cream with AEROSIL® R 816 is a oil-in-water emulsion.
The formulation features AEROSIL® R 816 which is a fumed silica powder that offers an alternative technology to stabilize oil/water emulsions. Due to the special surface modification of the silica both hydrophilic and hydrophobic properties are introduced in just one material. This ingredient brings structure to the continuous water phase and increases its viscosity which limits the mobility of the oil droplets, thereby providing for even more emulsion stability.

Procedure for Pickering Emulsion Face Cream with AEROSIL® R 816
- Combine and mix all components of phase 1.
- Add AEROSIL® R 816 slowly to the water phase while gentile stirring until all silica has been incorporated.
- Homogenize under vacuum.
- Combine all ingredients of the oil phase 3 and add to the water phase at moderate speed.
- Homogenize with high shear mixing.
- Add the fragrance and mix further with moderate speed.
