Frank Bergonzi talks with Chemical Weekly Magazine in the story regarding trends in the business and Azelis Americas’ position in the market.
“We can provide valuable information about specific applications and how customers are using the product. It’s giving the principal a deep look into these small customers that they didn’t have before.” – Frank Bergonzi
Specialties player Azelis acquired leading US specialty chemical distributor KODA to boost its presence in the Americas. “The market is not robust but our care and agricultural chemical sectors have led the way this year,” says Frank Bergonzi, president and CEO of Azelis Americas. “However, the oil and gas sector, which has weighed on the overall distribution and where we don’t have major presence, appears to have bottomed.”
Azelis Americas is now looking at opportunities to expand further in the Americas both organically, through product line extensions with existing suppliers, as well as further M&A activity. “We’re actively looking for opportunities in South America,” Bergonzi says. “Historically, we’ve been active and focused in North America. We are now also looking for opportunities in South America.”
In Europe, Azelis completed the acquisition of specialties distributor Ametech (Milan, Italy) in October. Azelis CEO Hans-Joachim Müller said when the deal was announced that the acquisition will allow the company to expand into the agricultural chemical and fertilizer formulations business—a subsector within the agricultural industry, a key market—in which it had limited presence in the past.
