Description
Alpha-lipoic acid is a potent antioxidant that attacks “free radicals”, also appears to regenerate and work synergistically with other antioxidants such as vitamins E and C. It actually boost the natural level of vitamins E and C within the cell, giving further protection from free radical damage and aging.
Alpha lipoic acid besides being an antioxidant also act as a powerful anti-inflammatory agent. It prevents activation of translation factor nuclear factor kappa-B, which once activated by free radicals will attach to the DNA molecule in the nucleus and translate factor into protein production which when released into the cells cause damage and cell death.
Both lipid and water soluble due to its unique molecular structure. Because of this properties, lipoic acid can rapidly penetrate all portions of the cell, providing protection within the lipid cell membrane, as well as the aqueous compartment, and the nucleus.
